This week we celebrate the second Sunday of Lent. We are in a penitential season, where we continually consider our need of Him. We remember Him as our rock and redeemer, the one who sees all and is faithful to forgive.
In our worship this week we will take time to reflect on His strength in our weakness; In times of trouble, our refuge; In hardships, our deliverer; Our hope when the world seems broken. Friends, this is a bright sadness. Life will be hard, but He is near. I love how Paul describes this – in Colossians 3:2-3 he says, “2. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
Our homily will be taught from Psalm 27 this week. Before worship, Take a moment to read it and let your mind take it in. Let your heart be prepared to hear the good news from God’s Word: He is our light and our salvation; our confidence is in Him. Because of His mercy, we are hidden in His hands.
If you have a moment, read the words to this song we will sing during the Eucharist.
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save me from its guilt and power.
Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All could never sin erase,
Thou must save, and save by grace.
Nothing in my hands I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace:
Foul, I to the fountain fly,
Wash me, Savior, or I die.
While I draw this fleeting breath,
When mine eyes shall close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.
